Founded in 1989, Dreams For Kids is a volunteer based, registered non-profit 501(c)(3) children’s charity that breaks down social barriers and end the isolation of at-risk youth.

Dreams For Kids is empowering youth who live in poverty and those with disabilities, by uniting them with their peers, recognizing their abilities, and allowing their voices to be heard.  The most isolated young people from every community are reminded they have something to give, and they are the solution- not the problem.

In partnership with the best educators and corporate leaders in the world, our Dream Leaders are creating the future and changing the world right now through Dream Leaders Conferences and life-changing initiatives such as Extreme Recess and Holiday for Hope. With your support we can reach youth living in poverty and those with disabilities who are waiting to serve others. They are not asking for charity-they want to give. They want to be the solution. Together, we can empower a generation that truly will change the world. Help us give them that great opportunity! Donate directly on our website. 100 % of all online donations benefit our youth programs, with $0 for administration or overhead expense.

How Dreams For Kids Began:

Dreams For Kids was founded by Tom Tuohy, at the request of his mother, Patricia Tuohy. Mrs. Tuohy was a single parent who dedicated her life to raising her four young children and to overcoming any adversity that stood in the way of her family’s personal welfare.

The organization was born on December 24, 1989 in a small room inside a homeless shelter in the Englewood neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago, Illinois. On Christmas Eve, a dozen volunteers, including Santa, showed up at “Clara’s House” with Tom to visit 54 children living in this homeless shelter. When Clara told the volunteers that the kids would never have even known it was Christmas, a commitment was made to reach out further each and every year.

Dreams for Kids, Changing the World…One Person at a Time, written by Tom Tuohy and published on May 17, 2010, shares the history of the organization, as well as the stories of the inspiration and generosity that has made Dreams For Kids the organization it is today.
