H.O.M.E. Housing Opportunities and Mantenance for Elderly

Do seniors living in Chicago have the support and means they need to live independently?

The social safety net is torn. Thousands of low-income Chicago seniors don’t have the means or support they need to live in adequate housing. Many don’t have access to grocery stores, medical centers and pharmacies. Isolation threatens their health and well being. At H.O.M.E., we understand that maintaining independence and being a part of a community are essential for seniors.

Founded through the vision of Michel and Lilo Salmon, and nurtured by passionate, like-minded community leaders, for 30 years H.O.M.E. has helped thousands of low-income seniors to be independent and stay in their communities.

H.O.M.E. provides services unlike any other senior-focused organization in Chicago. Free home maintenance and repair services ensure seniors enjoy healthy and safe living conditions in their own homes. H.O.M.E.’s free shopping transportation helps seniors who have limited mobility or live in food deserts get access to groceries, household supplies and medication. Plus, H.O.M.E. owns three affordable and safe residential buildings offering intergenerational living in apartments or a shared living community for residents who need some assistance.

Our person-centered culture looks beyond the problems seniors face and focuses on the person’s whole life. We seek resources to address every seniors’ situation and needs – whether from within H.O.M.E. or other organizations in the Chicago area.

H.O.M.E. is a caring community for the seniors we serve as well as an exceptional volunteer and donor experience. We depend on individual, corporate and foundation support. Donors can feel especially proud of the backing they give H.O.M.E. because H.O.M.E. literally changes the lives of low-income seniors.
